The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello

Posted in animation, movies, steampunk by Paul Sabou on September 6, 2010

“The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello” is a steampunk animation of rich & deep story of the explorations of the navigator Jasper Morello (story character). This is the first part of a trillogy.

I’m deeply fascinated by steampunk animations and movies. But, this one is not only a fantastic animation, it’s also a great story. See the video of the first episode below :

A few days ago I twitted about “Max & Mary”. The same author (Adam Elliot) did four more animations (in the years before Mary & Max). See below :

An insightfull documentary on the lifecycle of buildings

Posted in architecture, documentary, movies, sociology by Paul Sabou on February 8, 2009

This six part documentary (by Stewart Brand) into the lifecycle of buildings presents the way buildings get reconstructed from time to time in order to accomodate the way people use and feel about their own space.

The most interresting conclusion this documentary tries to transmit is that :the building’s life starts (not ends) after the construction phase is finished. This brings into focus important concerns (that usually tend to be overlooked) like :

  • maintenance
  • flexibility of modification
  • the main vectors of change
